Sen. Robert Byrd (D-W.Va.) and Justice John Paul Stevens are both in the news today: Byrd, the longest-serving senator in U.S. history, died early this morning, and Stevens has appeared for the last time as a member of the Supreme Court.
This isn’t the first time the two men’s lives intersected on the national stage.
On Dec. 9, 1975, Byrd, as a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, was among those who questioned Stevens during the then-nominee’s confirmation hearing. Many of his questions are reminiscent of those that senators are likely to ask Elena Kagan this week, in her confirmation hearing to succeed Stevens on the Court.

Hollywood actress Mena Suvari has tied the knot with concert producer Simone Sestito.
The couple were married on Saturday in a private church in Vatican City, Italy, PEOPLE has confirmed.
“The ceremony was truly unique and Mena looked breathtaking,” says a guest. “They are very much in love.”
The two, who have been engaged since 2008, planned a private reception following their ceremony outside of the city.
Suvari, 31, and Sestito, 25, met at the Toronto Film Festival in 2007. The couple chose Rome as their wedding locale because most of Sestito’s family lives near the city.

BEVERLY HILLS — The reminder stayed the same as it was late last year when Conversations sat down for one-on-ones with Robert Pattinson (the vampire), Kristen Stewart (the human) and Taylor Lautner (the werewolf) for the New Moon, the second in the series of the best-selling four-part novels by Stephenie Meyer.
That is: No personal questions, please. Stick to the movie. (Together, Robert and Kristen are known simply as Robsten.)
So two weeks ago when I again did one-on-ones with the three stars (along with a dozen of their co-stars…more on them soon!) for Eclipse, the second to the finale installment (before Breaking Dawn) of what is now more popularly known as the The Twilight Saga also in the same venue, the Four Seasons, I was extra-careful not to ask Pattinson (a.k.a. RPattz), 24, and Stewart (a.k.a. KStew), 20, if their romance is as real as it is in the reel. Taylor, 17, was more “game.” With a winsome, “werewolfish” smile, he allowed a little glimpse into his “personal” life such as how he got the beautiful body that has landed him on the cover of several magazines.
In Eclipse, megged by a new director (David Slade, 30 Days of Night, Hard Candy), Bella Swan (Stewart) once again finds herself surrounded by danger as Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge. In the midst of it all, Bella is forced to choose between her love for Edward Cullen (Pattinson) and her friendship with Jacob Black (Taylor), knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her high-school graduation quickly approaching, Bella is confronted with the most important decision of her life.

Michael Jackson passed away a year ago today. He was 50. The year that followed has marked a celebration of his life, invigorating legions of fans old and new.
The past 12 months have also made clear that his life was as unusual as his career was successful. Personally and professionally, the icon truly had no peers.
Only Lady Gaga topped Michael Jackson in albums sold in 2009, an indication of his legacy. But the tragic, bizarre details of his demise are equally noteworthy.
On top of the immediate causes of his death, and the role of Dr. Conrad Murray, are lingering questions about how a star so bright fell so far from his past glory.

According to NYPost Lady Gaga was permanently banned from Yankees’ clubhouse after her inappropriate behaviour during her visit to the house. The website says the Alejandro singer was “swigging whiskey and repeatedly fondling her boobs”. Gaga was with two gilfriends, met some plyers including Alex Rodriguez and Robinson Cano and was so excited to be there, she loves so much the Yankees, said the source.
The singer was wearing just black lingerie, fishnet stoking and Yankee jersey which was unbuttoned, you can see her photos around the internet and in the video below. So, it seems like Lady wanted to get all the attention thus she started to touch her chest over her jersey. After the show, she left the stadium through a private exit.
This is the second time that Gaga visits at a baseball game. Her first bizarre incident was at Citi Field on June 10 she was seated in the front-row, but later she was moved to Jerry Seinfeld’s box (It is said without his permission), she showed the finger to fans after drinking beers.
So, Is Lady Gaga banned by Yankees’ clubhouse? Nope! Even when Gagita allegedly was a bad girl during her visit to the clubhouse, you know, slurring words, touching her breats in front of the players and chugging whiskey, “she is not banned” said the General Manager Brian Cashman, reports Gossip Cop.
“She’s not banned,” clarifies general manager Brian Cashman. “Celebrities aren’t banned. If Michael Jordan showed up here he would have access (to the clubhouse), but not after a loss.”
“That was the wrong time and the wrong place,” said Cashman, adding that the controversy was “not her fault.”
What do you think on Lady Gaga’s behaviour at the baseball game? See a video below, plus some pictures of the singer performing at the 02 Arena London, England on May 30, 2010.

Catherine Zeta-Jones regrets her Tony Award-winning acceptance speech Sunday night, in which she gushed over husband Michael Douglas upon winning best actress for her role in the musical “A Little Night Music.”
“See that man over there?,” she said, motioning to her beaming husband in the audience, “He’s a movie star, and I get to sleep with him every night.”
Although the audience laughed with approval, an embarrassed Zeta-Jones, who shimmered in a strapless, glacier-blue Versace gown, shuddered when she got off stage.

If he received as many flowers as he does red and yellow cards, Brazil’s Felipe Melo would be a very happy man.
The defensive midfielder has a fearsome reputation for his crunching tackles, admitting that he often goes over the top, but on Saturday revealed a soft centre which few would have suspected.
“I’m an old romantic,” he said to much bewilderment from the hundreds of Brazilian reporters at the team’s daily news conference.
“People may think I have a nasty face, but I like to send cards and flowers to my wife, and I like to receive them as well, it’s great … in fact, I get upset if I don’t get them.
“We’ve been married six years but it still feels like we’ve just started going out,” he added.
In football terms, there is nothing romantic about a player who has picked up five red cards in the last two seasons — one with Brazil and two with each of Juventus and Fiorentina — and is habitually booked.
But the 27-year-old made no apologies for his style of play and said that he regarded fouling opponents as an occupational hazard rather than unsporting behaviour.
